March 25th: Flood warnings issued in Lancashire
Areas along the Upper and Lower River Wyre affected by night of heavy rain
Welcome to our off-the-shelf toolkit for teachers, which contains all the necessary tools and resources to deliver fun and interactive lessons focused on resilience, aimed at children in years 3-6. Each of the six sessions below include lesson plans and resources to support teachers in helping children recognise the importance of being prepared in an emergency, and equipping them at an early age with important tools and coping strategies.
The package, originally created by Blackburn with Darwen Council, is designed to be flexible so that teachers can use it in whatever way works best for them, for example delivering one session per week, or more intensively across a week if preferred. Alternatively, certain elements can be pulled out separately for younger pupils.
These lessons would also work well for families, groups of friends, or extra-curricular clubs, such as brownies and cubs, whose good scout motto reflects ours here at the LRF and across all of Lancashire’s emergency services - Be prepared!
