Parts of Lancashire are set to be hit with more snow and ice this week, as the Met Office issues a new 17-hour weather warning.

Coming into effect at 7pm on Thursday (February 12), the yellow snow warning covers RossendaleBurnleyClitheroeNelsonColne, the Forest of Bowland and parts of Lancaster. It will last until 12pm on Friday (February 13) and also affects other areas of the North West, Yorkshire and Humber, West Midlands, East Midlands, the North East and Scotland.

The Met Office issues severe weather warnings when there is expected to be danger or disruption caused by the conditions. There are three severities - yellow, amber and red - and can be issued for a range of phenomena including snow, hail, rain, wind, and fog among others.

What to expect while the weather warning is in place:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
