There have been reports of flooding in the East Lancashire village of Sawley, Ribble Valley with a number of road closures in the local area. We are asking residents to remain alert and follow the advice on the Lancashire Resilience Forum website.
Around 5.2 million people in England and Wales, about one in six properties, is at risk from flooding. More than half of those at significant risk of flooding are not aware of this.
Lancashire is particularly susceptible to natural flooding hazards due to its varied geography, covering rural land, dense urban areas, coastal stretches, lowlands and uplands. Climate change is increasing the risk of flooding to both coastal and inland communities. The Environment Agency helps keep the public informed by issuing flood alerts and warnings based on river and sea levels.
There are currently 16 flood alerts (1000hrs 11 January) across Lancashire. For more updates and to keep up to date with the situation where you live, you can sign up for Flood Alerts.
