The Lancashire Violence Reduction Network (VRN) is currently recruiting for an Emergency Department (ED) Navigator to join its team at East Lancashire Hospitals. The role is part of a wider VRN programme that supports young people accessing A&E due to serious violence related injuries.

The Emergency Department (ED) Navigator role is to identify and engage with patients aged 10 to 25 years, who attend the Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Hospital with injuries consistent with involvement in violence. The aim of the role is to intervene in a non-judgemental way, as close to the time of the incident as possible. The role is about prevention and using the knowledge we have in public health and trauma informed approaches to understand why people commit violence, helping them by building trusted relationships to navigate away from violence, towards a more positive lifestyle.

 The scope of the post will include the development of professional relationships with children and young people and other agencies within the community i.e. family support workers, Social Workers, school nurses, Teachers, Police, Champions to improve outcomes for victims of violence. The post holder will need to be a motivated and dynamic practitioner with experience of working with safeguarding issues. The ability to work as part of a team are essential requirements, as is the ability to work a varying shift pattern to cover the service 7 days a week and during unsociable hours.
