The LRF is supporting today's national day "to honour and remember" victims and survivors of terrorism.

The event is taking place after a campaign by families and survivors, including those affected by the Westminster Bridge and Manchester arena attacks, including Travis Frain OBE who says he "fought tirelessly" for the UK to adopt the national day to help "educate the next generation".

Travis, who became Lancashire’s youngest ever Deputy Lord-Lieutenant in 2024, was struck by the car driven by Khalid Masood, whose actions killed four people, while he was in London on a university trip to visit the House of Commons. He has made a full recovery after suffering multiple fractures and needed urgent hospital treatment.

Talking about the event he said: "Britain has a long history with terrorism and counter terrorism and it is important that as a society we commemorate and remember those affected - for the impacts are often lifelong.

“A National Day of recognition in dedication to those affected by terrorism will provide an opportunity to remember those we have lost, to pay tribute to the bravery and resilience of those who have survived these heinous acts, and for us to look forward to the future to educate the next generation."

Neil Williams, from the Lancashire Resilience Forum’s Protect and Prepare Group, said: “We would like to remind people that a Support Hub for victims and survivors of terrorism has been established to provide specialist support for anyone affected by a terrorist incident.

“The Support Help provides immediate support and longer-term help such as emotional support, opportunities to connect with others, and support during difficult times such as anniversaries.’’
