Lancashire residents are being informed Storm Amy is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to North West England from Friday, October 3. The Met Office say Storm Amy will sweep into the North West of England and much of the area further north on Friday (3 October) into Saturday (4 October).
As a result a yellow weather warning for wind is in place on Friday from 6pm until midnight on Saturday. Winds could reach 50–60 mph inland, with stronger gusts in exposed areas.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree, said; “Although there is still some uncertainty about the exact track Storm Amy will take, the system will bring gale force winds across northern and western regions, with gusts widely reaching 50 to 60 miles per hour inland in northern Britain, and potentially reaching 70 to 80 miles per hour in places. With even stronger gusts on exposed coasts and hills, mainly in the northwest.''
