Day 5 of the #30Days30WaysUK campaign looks at Wildfire Awareness and the growing risk of #Wildfires.

This summer, Europe has faced devastating fires – and while the UK’s risk is lower, long, hot, dry weather can make wildfires far more likely with the recent fires in North Yorkshire highlighting the dangers.

Wildfires can spread quickly, putting homes, wildlife, and our landscape at risk. Lancashire knows the devastation of wildfires—Winter Hill in 2018 burned for 6 weeks, affecting 18 square kilometers.

Here’s how you can help protect your home and our community:

 Protect Your Home:

✓ Clear gutters of dead leaves regularly.

✓ Move flammable materials like compost heaps and log piles away from your home.

 While Out and About:

✓ No disposable barbecues on moorland, please pack a picnic instead.

✓ Dispose of cigarette butts properly—don’t drop them out of car windows.

Lancashire Fire and rescue Service has information dedicated to wildfires on its website so please have a look at the guidance there.

Every small action counts. Let’s protect Lancashire together.
