World First Aid Day is an annual global event that raises awareness about the importance of gaining skills that can help others in times of need.

Held on the second Saturday of September, this day highlights how first aid can save lives in everyday and crisis situations.

It is a fact that roughly 59% of injury related deaths can be prevented by giving First Aid before responders arrive. Learning a first aid skill can only take a minute but could end up saving someone’s life and there are plenty of opportunities to help you learn a skill that could save someone's life.

St John Ambulance is currently hosting a campaign called Save a Life September which is encouraging parents, grandparents, partners, siblings, and colleagues to learn first aid and make sure the people they care about are safe and protected. The campaign aims to teach 300,000 people how to treat choking, cardiac arrest, and severe bleeding.

Throughout September they are holding a number of demonstrations that are open to the public and everyone is welcome.
